I received today as a gift from my friend Wil Baden a book that once belonged to his grandfather. It is a 575-page foolscap-octavo volume called The True Faith of Our Forefathers, written “by a Professor of Theology in Woodstock College, S. J., Maryland” and published in 1880 by “The American News Company, Agents for the Trade, 39 and 41 Chambers Street, New York.”
I shall try it as bedside reading.

Notes 87
I cannot prevent people who don’t love you from liking my work, but I can try.
Some people deserve to go to heaven, not for doing anything, but just for suffering.
Even Deconstructionists cash their checks.

Cross for Terri Schiavo
A Java applet for Terri Schindler-Schiavo
They took counsel together against me;
They devised to take away my life.
But I trusted in thee, O LORD:
I said, Thou art my God.

Oliv told us that her classmate Ariel was performing today, so after lunch we picked up their classmate Mary and drove to First Congregational Church to attend a Sunday afternoon concert of The Monday Musical Club. Ariel Hellwitz played three pieces on the flute, accompanied on the guitar by her father Frederic J. Hellwitz. Fred also played two solo guitar pieces. The program started with a soprano and ended with another soprano. We were all happy to hear Ariel play well. To me the highlight of the program was Fred’s playing of Recuerdos de la Alhambra by Francisco Tárrega (1852–1909).
I am happy to mention that coming back from Saratoga Springs last night we enjoyed the CD Give Up the Ghost by Mary's father Jim Gaudet.
